Frequently asked questions
Is Formosan Kombucha a 100% kombucha?
Yes. We don't mess with our Kombucha. It’s pure and undiluted; nothing is added or removed.
Why does Formosan Kombucha taste so different?
We keep things simple, as they should be in the kitchen. We only use high quality ingredients to make our kombucha. There is no dead vinegar, high fructose corn syrup, or other ingredients added at all.
Why is it sour?
Kombucha’s sour vinegary taste, with hints of apple and plum, comes from the biochemical process performed by SCOBY
(Symbiotic Cultures of Bacteria and Yeasts). There is nothing added to make it sour.
Why is it fizzy?
The carbon dioxide that gives Kombucha its remarkable fizziness comes from the biochemical process performed by SCOBY
(Symbiotic Cultures of Bacteria and Yeasts) as the sugar and tea particles are being broken down and transformed.
Does it contain sugar?
The delicate sweetness in our kombucha comes from the residual sugar. This is a very small quantity of sugar which has not been used within biochemical making process and still remains in the drink. After making process is complete, no sugar is added to Formosan Kombucha.
Is it a non-alcoholic drink?
Yes. Kombucha is a non-alcoholic beverage. However, it may contain traces of alcohol, which may appear as a by-product of the biochemical process. These trace amounts are similar to the trace alcohol found in unpasteurised fruit juices.
What does it mean that Formosan Kombucha is raw?
Our Kombucha is not pasteurised with high temperature or gamma radiation to extend its shelf life. We like things fresh and non-nuclear!!
What does it mean that Formosan Kombucha is active?
The SCOBY micro-organisms are still present and alive in our kombucha. This is similar to live yogurts with active bio-cultures.
What does it mean that Formosan Kombucha is unfined?
We don't use fining agents to give the beverage more clarity. Extracts of fish bladder (isinglass), gelatine, and sulphur dioxide, are the most common agents used by industry, but we believe fining is not necessary. Unfined beverages retain more goodness, as well as a fuller body and taste.
Where do the vitamins and other goodies come from?
All the nutritious vitamins and goodies found in kombucha are created through our strictly controlled biochemical process.
